I first encountered value management in 1998 and could see straightaway its potential in setting strategy as well as in tailoring a project or product. Since then, I have gained my PVM and TVM qualifications and led studies in several different industries. I am particularly interested in popularising its use for developing strategy and also to increase awareness of its techniques among those disciplines less likely to have encountered it.
Currently, I act as coordinator for the activities in London and the South East, supported by a very able and fluid committee, fluctuating according to work and other commitments. We meet mainly prior to events, but also a couple of times a year, to ensure we have a reasonable calendar of events in development and to share roles. Any member who wishes to attend a committee meeting may do so by arrangement with Bala or myself, or can be invited by another committee member. We are always on the lookout for new active participants, on the grounds that many hands make light work – especially in the world of organising events! We are especially keen to hear from those who do not work for construction consultancies, as these are a bit over-represented on the committee just now – however, if you do work for one and would still like to be involved, please do come along: you will still be exceedingly welcome. After all, the more people we have, the better the service we would provide and there are many things we already know we would like to do, but haven’t yet grown enough resources for them.
