In 1998 I first became involved in Value Management after attending the 3 day VM Foundation Course delivered by Martyn Quarterman. Following this I saw a niche in the Railway Industry that was being missed and decided to take up VM as a career. I started delivering VM Studies before progressing through Advanced training to PVM and later TVM certification. Other qualifications include an MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration
Most of my career I am proud to say has been in the Railway industry (28 years), and it is within Network Rail that I currently work in the field of Risk and Value Management. As well as delivering VM, I also now deliver the 3 day VM Foundation Course to managers internally within the company. Over recent years the utilisation of VM has increased considerably and it is now practised on many projects.
I am extremely passionate about the use of VM, however I do feel that its benefits are not always fully exploited. There is clearly a need for VM in a range of sectors including Government, Utilities, IT, Construction, Transport, Manufacturing and Retail etc.
Outside of work and the IVM, I am married with a 15 year old son and two step-daughters. I live in the beautiful city of York
