Introduction

The SIGs primary objective is to look into innovation in training and the associated certification with a view to increase the uptake of VM across all industry sectors.

The reasons behind this SIG includes:

• There is a need for a group to innovate and 'optioneer' with regard to training and certification policy. Especially since the Certification Board and EGB (European Governing Board) are not policy setters but are purely there to administer the system.

• The current training and certification system is in need of a shake up if the IVM are to increase the uptake of VM in general.

• The perception of the current system is that it is too workshop focused as well as too costly and time consuming for potential students, hence, the uptake is relatively small.
